چکیده
Clinical case A partial resection of the sternum was performed on a 48 year old female patient with benign sternal tumor. The middle third of the sternum and the adjacent parts of left and right third ribs were resected. Reconstruction of the postoperative 7/6 cm. bone defect was achieved using titanium implant “LeyTM prosthesis”, Geister, Germany. 5 years after surgery the patient complained of severe pain in the region of intervention. On the X-ray study were seen 4 fractures of the titanium implant and in 3 of the 4 surgical steel sutures. After a discussion with representatives of Geister it was clear that this is the only case with fractured titanium “LeyTM prosthesis” implant of about 500 already implanted across Europe. Surgery was performed on 08.11.2012, and all titanium fragments were removed. The patient was discharged in good condition and without pain.

متن کاملChest reconstruction using a custom-designed polyethylene 3D implant after resection of the sternal manubrium
INTRODUCTION Resection of manubrium or body of the sternum is associated with a necessity of chest wall reconstruction. Large sternal defects require the use of different types of implants to ensure acceptable esthetic effect for the patient and chest stabilization. AIM The purpose of this case report is to present a novel method of reconstruction of manubrium removed due to renal cancer meta...
متن کاملSurgical management of a giant sternal chondromyxoid fibroma: a case report
BACKGROUND A primary chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) arising from sternum is quite uncommon tumor in thoracic surgery. Removal of giant sternal tumors requires extensive resection of the anterior chest wall, and results in deformity and paradoxical movement. CASE PRESENTATION A 40-year-old female presented a progressively enlarging mass of her anterior chest wall. Computed tomography revealed an ...
متن کاملChondrosarcoma from the sternum: Reconstruction with titanium mesh and a transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap after subtotal sternal excision
BACKGROUND Chondrosarcoma arising from the sternum is extremely rare and is often untreatable. Removal of the sternum for malignant tumor results in large defects in bone and soft tissue, causing deformity and paradoxical movement of the chest wall and making subsequent repair of the thorax very important. We report a very rare patient with a chondrosarcoma of the sternum who underwent case che...

Sternal dehiscence is one of the most troublesome complications following cardiac surgery. Treatment failure and consequent lethal results are very common, even with all the efforts to resolve sternal dehiscence such as removal of infectious tissue, muscle flap interposition, and sternal rewiring. We report on a case of sternal osteomyelitis following coronary artery bypass grafting that was su...
